It’s MARATHON WEEK!

The Big D Marathon is Sunday morning, it is finally here!!! I started training on Christmas Eve with a brutal 4.5 mile, freezing cold, run in the middle of a rainstorm. When I cross the finish line, I will have run 531 miles (260 of which was pushing a jogging stroller) and worn out two pairs of running shoes.

I’m not nervous; I’m more excited than anything else. I’m excited about the race, about the accomplishment and about going back to Dallas. We haven’t been back since we sold our house and I can’t wait to run around White Rock Lake again. Oh White Rock, how I miss you so!

Marathon training changed me as a runner, as it should. I’ve matured, become more experienced and more confident. I know so much more now than I did before. Now, I know that it’s just as much about building your mental endurance as it is your physical endurance. Before training I never felt like I could be a lifer. Something was always holding me back – a nagging injury, a lack of motivation or a lack of time. But now I know how to overcome injury and most importantly how to overcome myself.

When I decided to start training for this event everyone, EVERYONE told me I was nuts. You’re going to train for your first marathon while nursing a 6 month old baby?!?! Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. I’m not gonna lie, it was hard – but then again, I didn’t choose to do it because it was easy. I guess it helped that I really didn’t do it alone. I never would have been able to get through it without the love and support of my family and my husband who always were there to help me along they way. Perhaps they were right; maybe I am a little nuts. BUT I will be a successful nut and those are the best kind…and almonds, those are good too.
