Year of Running 2013

This year has been such a big one for me! It began on July 10, when my OB gave me clearance to run again. Since I didn’t run during my pregnancy I really only had five and a half months of running this year. I didn’t let that slow me down though!

Once the doc gave me the a-ok, I hit the ground running! Literally!

By the time this year is over I will have covered 539 miles most of which have taken place pushing a jogging stroller.

Best race experience?

That’s an easy one since I only ran one race. The Houston Half. I finally broke 2 hours with a time of 1:56.28! Woohoo!

Best run?

I don’t know if it was the best but certainly the most memorable run was a long 13 miler with my running partner back in October. The first cold front of the season arrived four hours sooner than the weather service thought it would. We were prepared for a run in 70 degree weather. Four miles into the run we were hit with an almost impossible north wind and freezing cold rain that felt like needles hitting your skin. The temperature plummeted to 40 degrees in just under an hour. It was the closest I’ve ever been to giving up on a run. We were wholly unprepared to run in those conditions. We toughed it out though and I think we both went home and spent about an hour in a hot shower trying to warm ourselves back up.

Best new piece of gear?

Without a doubt the BOB Ironman Dullie. The relationship I have with the stroller is love hate. It’s easy to complain about having to push it – when fully loaded with kids it weighs almost 90 pounds…and getting heavier every day. But I am so thankful for the ability to take the kids out on runs. I wouldn’t be the runner I am without it.

Best piece of running advice you received?

Your biggest limitation is your own belief of what you can do. You have to dream big to accomplish big things.

Most inspirational runner?

Jessica Hofheimer (Pace of Me), her blog is one I read often. Her positive attitude and live in the moment mentality have taught me the most important lessons I have learned this year. See above.

If you could sum up your year in a couple of words?

How about one word? Transformational.

  1. Nice! I love hearing mamas getting it done, even if takes a stroller. I am well past those days now, but remember that it wasn’t the easiest way to go, that’s for sure! Congrats on getting back up and running again–thanks for joining in!
